Two-time Olympian Elreen Ando will lead the Philippine weightlifting team at the 2025 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Jiangshan, China, from May 9 to 15.
Ando, who finished sixth in the women’s 59kg category at the 2024 Paris Olympics, will now compete in the 64kg division. This is the same weight class in which she earned a bronze medal at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou and a silver medal at the 2021 Asian Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.
Ando will be joined by her teammates: Rose Jean Ramos (women’s 45kg), Rosegie Ramos (women’s 49kg), Kristel Macrohon (women’s 71kg), and Fernando Agad Jr. (men’s 55kg).
The team will also be accompanied by Samahang Weightlifting ng Pilipinas president Monico Puentevella, Brian Joseph Puentevella, and national coaches Nicolas Jaluag, Patrick Lee, and Kelle Kay Rojas. Additionally, the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) will provide support through staff members including SDO Violeta Tuazon, physical therapist Kirsten Jan Alamar, and masseuse Rosanna Cinco.
