Christopher Schwarzenegger is opening up about his impressive weight loss transformation.
On May 10, the 27-year-old son of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver shared details of his five-year journey to better health during a panel at the Inaugural Beacher Vitality Happy & Healthy Summit in Los Angeles. The discussion, moderated by Jeff Beacher, also included Kelly Osbourne and Maria Shriver.
Christopher explained that his weight loss process began in 2019, while he was living in Australia. He reflected on how his weight limited him from fully enjoying everyday activities. “I was on this big trip, and I made it a big deal, like, ‘Oh, I’m going to do all this stuff in Australia,’” he said. “But I just saw how much my weight was stopping me from doing those things.”
One example he shared was his attempt to go skydiving. “I was like, ‘I want to go skydiving,’ and my friends were like, ‘Yeah, no shot.’ I was like, ‘Yeah, I can’t skydive,'” he recalled.
His struggle with weight began in high school, where he tried to eat healthier by bringing customized lunches to school. “I tried everything. I was doing meal delivery things in high school, and I remember feeling like a weirdo when I was bringing weird lunches to school,” he said.
Christopher emphasized that his transformation has been a long process filled with trial and error. “It’s not an overnight thing,” he admitted. “Even now, I don’t feel like I’m at the ‘after’ stage. I don’t feel like I’m at the point where I want to be.”
His weight loss journey caught attention when he was spotted last month in West Hollywood, wearing a slim-fitting navy shirt and khakis while out to dinner with his brother, Patrick Schwarzenegger.
One key moment in his journey was when he gave up bread for Lent, a Christian tradition. “Weirdly enough, I gave up bread for Lent,” Christopher shared. “I thought, ‘If I’m going to give up bread, I might as well take the opportunity.'”
He continued, “I was like, ‘I’m a good Catholic boy, so I’m not going to break it.’ And I lost 30 pounds in less than two months.”
Though Christopher had kept his fitness journey relatively private, his brother Patrick, 31, praised his efforts in a now-deleted 2021 Instagram post. “Proud of you. New job. Crushing it in the gym. Whole new person,” Patrick wrote. “Can’t wait to see what this year brings.”
