Unity Schools Alumni Encourage Fitness During Lagos Health Walk

Former students of Nigeria’s Federal Unity Schools came together to promote physical fitness and wellbeing at a health walk organized by the Lagos chapter of the United Schools Old Students Association of Nigeria (USOSAN).

The event, called the ‘Unity in Motion’ Health Walk, took place at the National Stadium in Surulere. It attracted a diverse group of alumni who joined to celebrate unity, fitness, and community spirit.

Chinedu Okoli, Team Lead of USOSAN Lagos and spokesperson for the organizing committee, thanked everyone who took part in the walk. He said, “As we conclude the Health Walk, we say a big thank you to all members of the USOSAN Lagos community and leadership for supporting this event.”

Okoli added, “We wanted to use this event to show how strong our unity is. We also aimed to remind everyone about the bond that connects us as Nigerians.”

Health partners, including Paelon Hospital and the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and AIDS Prevention Inc. (RFHA), offered free health screenings. Participants could check their body mass index (BMI), blood pressure, and glucose levels.

The event also featured a health awareness session. Dr. Olaide Omotosho-Ikuru led the session and spoke about nutrition, preventive care, and healthy lifestyle choices. Attendees asked many questions, showing strong interest.

Alumni took part in zonal board games and fun competitions. Prizes were provided by well-known brands. The friendly contests added excitement to the event. Participants also received free gifts and branded items from sponsors.

Michael Magaji, President General of USOSA, praised the Federal Government for establishing the Unity Schools. He said, “They are the reason we can all gather here today. This legacy of unity and excellence is what we celebrate. I encourage everyone to enjoy the day and keep the spirit of unity alive wherever they go.”

Chinedu Amure, Vice President General of USOSA, highlighted the theme of the day. He said, “The theme fits perfectly. We are enjoying the benefits of physical wellness while strengthening our bonds. This is who we truly are.”

USOSAN Lagos expressed deep gratitude to its sponsors. These included Rite Foods, MTN Nigeria, Lacasera, Wave, Paelon Hospital, Ariane Water, and the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and AIDS Prevention Inc. (RFHA).

The walk was open to more than just former students. Organizers invited well-wishers, and civic and health partners also supported the fitness initiative.
