Lizzo Talks About Struggling with Anxiety During Her Weight Loss Journey

In September of last year, Lizzo sparked significant online attention when she addressed rumors about using Ozempic following her weight loss transformation. Now, the singer of “Truth Hurts” is opening up about how she achieved her weight loss (or as she calls it, “weight release”) and the challenges she faced during the process.

On April 22, Lizzo shared insights into her journey during a TikTok Live session. She explained the dietary changes she made to reach her goals, including cutting out sugary foods in the morning and choosing savory options instead. “Everybody’s body is different,” she said, encouraging her viewers to find what works best for them. However, she emphasized that one principle is universally effective: “calories in versus calories out.” She added that this is simply how the human body operates.

Lizzo also gave an example of how she reduced sugar and calorie intake. She revealed that she used to consume up to three large Starbucks drinks a day, which contributed to an intake of around 1200 calories. Realizing the impact of these drinks, she decided to cut them from her diet. This change, she said, helped her better manage her “nervous system.”

Acknowledging that she had a tendency to binge eat, Lizzo explained that she adopted a calorie deficit approach, which involves consuming fewer calories than the body burns each day. This method is commonly recommended by health experts for weight loss.

Following her live stream, Lizzo posted another video showing fans a typical meal she enjoys, which included jerk chicken meatballs served with rice, peas, cabbage, and hot sauce.

Lizzo also spoke about the role of anxiety management in her weight loss journey. She shared that she has been working on controlling her anxiety for years, but recently decided to confront it head-on. “I wanted to release it, and I was ready to stop waiting to be myself,” she said. Meditation, taking personal time, and minimizing distractions were key steps in her progress.

Reflecting on her past, Lizzo admitted that she had previously used various distractions, like people, food, and drinking, to cope with her anxiety. “I just stopped doing that, and focused on me,” she shared.

Throughout her journey, Lizzo has remained open about her weight loss and continues to share body-positive messages with her followers. Fans are eager to see what she will share next.
