OLEAN — Total Senior Care (TSC) will host a free Senior Health and Fitness Fair on Wednesday, May 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at its location at 519 N. Union St. The event welcomes older adults, caregivers, and community members and highlights the importance of brain health in honor of Brain and Alzheimer’s Awareness Month, which begins in June.
The fair will provide access to wellness resources, local health services, and expert guidance. A key feature of the event will be a special presentation in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York. The session, titled “10 Ways to Love Your Brain,” will share simple and effective steps for maintaining cognitive health at any age.
“Everyday habits can help protect brain function and lower the risk of Alzheimer’s, dementia, or other cognitive issues,” said Chelsea Torgalski, MSW, education program manager at the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY. “We’re excited to support this event and offer tools that empower people to take control of their brain health. It’s never too early or too late to start.”
The presentation will encourage attendees to: challenge their minds, stay in school, get regular exercise, protect their heads, avoid smoking, control blood pressure, manage diabetes, eat healthy, maintain a proper weight, and sleep well.
This fair is part of National Senior Health & Fitness Day, a nationwide event that promotes physical activity and healthy living among older adults. Visitors will find informational booths from several organizations focused on physical, emotional, and mental wellness for seniors and caregivers.
Participating groups include the Alzheimer’s Association of WNY, Cancer Services Program, Cattaraugus County Department of Aging, CASA-Trinity, Olean Public Library, Eden Heights of Olean, Total Senior Care, HomeCare & Hospice, ConnectLife, Cattaraugus County Health Department, Threehouse Law Firm, Department of Community Services, Directions in Independent Living, Olean Family YMCA, and others.
“This is a great chance for seniors and their caregivers to connect with local programs that can help them stay healthy and active,” said Roxanne Padlo, executive program director at TSC. “We’re proud to take part in National Senior Health & Fitness Day and support wellness in all forms — physical, mental, and emotional.”
The event is open to the public. Seniors, caregivers, and businesses interested in serving the senior community are encouraged to attend.
Also happening during the event is a ConnectLife blood drive, taking place in TSC’s training room from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Each blood donation has the potential to save up to three lives. Donors who give blood during May will receive two flex tickets to a Buffalo Bisons home game.
