by Lana Green

Nashik: A total of 915 constables from the Nashik city police force successfully passed the Body Mass Index (BMI) test this year, qualifying for a monthly fitness allowance of Rs 250. This number is slightly lower than the 953 constables who passed the test in 2024. The BMI test is held annually during the months of March, April, and May.

Constables above the age of 35 are eligible to receive the Rs 250 fitness allowance, provided they pass the BMI test every year. According to senior officers, there are 3,000 constables in total within the Nashik city police department, of which 2,800 are eligible for the test. However, only 1,100 constables appeared for the BMI test this year. Of these, 915 passed, indicating that the remaining constables had a BMI above 25.

One unnamed constable shared that many police personnel have become more health-conscious, especially after the Covid-19 pandemic. “After the pandemic, awareness about health has increased in the force. Many officers have started activities like trekking and jogging to stay healthy,” the constable said. Despite this, many constables choose not to appear for the BMI test, with some citing the Rs 250 allowance as insufficient motivation.
