Bhubaneswar: For three lively hours on Sunday morning, the stretch from City Women’s College to Jagamara Road in Bhubaneswar turned into a vibrant zone filled with fun, fitness, and community spirit. The usually traffic-heavy road became a car-free space, allowing residents to relax, enjoy, and reconnect.
The event, called Happy Streets, was organised by The Times of India (TOI). It began with musical performances that drew in morning walkers and locals. Singers performed a mix of Bollywood hits, folk songs, and fusion numbers, creating a cheerful atmosphere.
Participants enjoyed a range of activities, all without the usual traffic noise and congestion. Residents welcomed the change. “It’s refreshing to see our street filled with such positive energy. Events like this bring the community together and encourage a healthier lifestyle,” said Sarat Sahu, a retired banker from Soubhagya Nagar.
The event was powered by SoA University. It was co-powered by SAI International School and SAI International Residential School. Sarthak Films was the official radio partner.
A free health check-up kiosk, set up by SUM Ultimate Hospital, offered basic screenings to visitors. “I often skip my regular health check-ups. Thanks to Happy Streets, I could finally get my vitals checked—and it was free,” said Manoranjan Das, a senior citizen.
Sports lovers also had plenty to enjoy. Decathlon, the event’s sports partner, set up mini-zones for cricket, basketball, and archery. Many residents joined in the games and won gift vouchers and other prizes.
The title sponsor of the event was the Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture. The celebration combined entertainment, wellness, and cultural pride, turning an ordinary Sunday into a joyful community experience.
