Upcoming Event to Celebrate Yoga and Meditation

by Lana Green

In recognition of the United Nations’ International Day of Yoga, the volunteer-run Sahaja Yoga Meditation Network (SYMN) will host a free, three-day community festival in Burlington from June 20 to 22. This special weekend will offer meditation, yoga, live music, and cultural activities, while also marking 20 years of Sahaja Yoga Meditation in the city.

This year’s event is an expanded version of the Festival of New Beginnings, now in its 10th year. It reflects SYMN’s mission to promote inner peace, self-realization, and joy through inclusive and transformative experiences.

Celebrating 100 Seeds of Joy

At the core of this celebration is the 100 Seeds of Joy initiative, launched in 2023 to honor the 100th birth anniversary of Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, founder of Sahaja Yoga Meditation, and Burlington’s 150th anniversary. The initiative has since offered over 400 free workshops each year across Halton, featuring meditation, arts, culture, and wellness. In 2024, SYMN volunteers were honored with the Halton Volunteer Impact Award for their outstanding community service.

Their music combines Eastern and Western traditions, creating a rich, “Celtic-sounding” style with instruments such as the piano, violin, harmonium, and flutes.

This special performance also commemorates the 20th anniversary of Burlington’s twinning with Apeldoorn, Netherlands, highlighting the city’s commitment to global friendship and cultural exchange.
