Celebrity trainers and fitness experts have many opinions on the rising use of Ozempic, and Brooke Burke is no exception.
At 53, the well-known fitness guru recently spoke with Page Six to share her views on weight loss medications like Ozempic. She explained that relying solely on such drugs without focusing on overall health is “not necessarily sustainable.”
Unlike some other fitness professionals—such as Jillian Michaels, who has criticized the use of these medications—Burke offered a more balanced view. “I’m not mad at it, I’ll be really honest,” she said. “I’m not mad at it if someone is disciplined enough to weight train, do their blood work, and eat properly. What drives me crazy is people who want a quick fix. They want to starve their body and don’t understand the value of weight training.”
Burke emphasized that problems arise when people use these drugs but ignore key aspects of wellness, like strength training and proper nutrition.
“We’re seeing this depleted look because people are losing their appetite,” she explained. “That’s what the hormone does—it curbs your appetite. But if you’re not eating, that’s terrible for your metabolism. That’s terrible for everything.”
She acknowledged that many people want fast results. “I know we want to cheat the system as Americans, we do. We’re looking for that quick fix. But it’s not necessarily sustainable.”
Burke also spoke about her personal use of HRT—hormone replacement therapy—and how important it is to set healthy, daily goals for both mental and physical well-being.
“If any of us think we can just take a prescription and it’s going to solve all our problems and we’ll be able to stay on that forever, we’re in big trouble,” she warned.
As weight loss drugs become more common, especially in Hollywood, Burke added that while she doesn’t believe people are required to disclose their medical decisions, honesty matters when inspiring others. “No, I think that’s bogus,” she said about the idea of public disclosure. “But if you’re looking dramatically different and want to motivate people, don’t lie about it!”
