A wave of tributes has followed the passing of Sue Taylor, a well-known and much-loved class instructor at Salt Ayre Leisure Centre in Lancaster.
The leisure centre announced her death in a heartfelt statement on its official Facebook page, describing Sue as “the brightest soul” and celebrating her “boundless positivity.”
“It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Sue Taylor,” the post read. “Sue was a cherished part of the Salt Ayre family – as a dedicated member of our staff and a much-loved class instructor. Her warmth, positivity, and energy lit up every space she entered. It was a joy to know her.”
The post went on to say that Sue left a lasting impression on many people and was known for lifting those around her. Her absence, it said, would be deeply felt by the team and the members who came to know and love her.
“In the coming days, we will carefully consider how to honour Sue’s life in a way that reflects how special she was to all of us,” the statement added. “Thank you for keeping Sue, her family, and all who loved her in your thoughts during this incredibly difficult time.”
Dozens of heartfelt comments were left beneath the announcement, reflecting the impact Sue had on the community.
One person wrote: “Sue was a true friend, an inspiration, and my burst of positivity every single day.”
Another commented: “She was so grateful for the love and understanding shown to her when she was unwell. She couldn’t believe how kind everyone was when she returned to classes after being away. Always humble and thankful. She loved her classes and her members so much.”
A third tribute read: “Sue was such a sweet lady. Her class was the first I ever attended. She made me feel so welcome, I kept coming back every week. Her warm personality made all the difference. Rest in peace, Sue. Love to your family.”
Another member shared: “This is such sad news. I’m going to miss our early morning chats and your infectious positive attitude. Your zest for life was amazing. You were taken far too soon. Your loss will affect the whole community. Thank you, Sue, for being part of my life.”
A spokesperson for Lancaster City Council said Sue had previously worked in the council’s financial services department before joining Salt Ayre Leisure Centre as an administrator and fitness instructor.
