Union Ayush Minister Prataprao Jadhav on Wednesday stressed the need for a whole-of-government approach to realize the Prime Minister’s vision of bringing yoga to every citizen.
He said, “The International Day of Yoga is not just a celebration. It is a movement that unites ministries, institutions, and citizens in a shared commitment to holistic health.”
Ahead of the 11th International Day of Yoga (IDY), an inter-ministerial committee (IMC) met on Wednesday in New Delhi to discuss and plan the preparations.
The meeting showed the government’s commitment to a unified approach. Senior officials from key ministries, Ayush institutions, and other departments came together to ensure wide participation and effective outreach for this global wellness event, according to a statement from the Ayush Ministry.
Jadhav highlighted the momentum created by more than 250 events held across India and abroad. He called for increased efforts during the final phase of preparations. Since March 13, daily countdown events—76 so far—have taken place, showing strong interest from many countries ahead of IDY 2025.
He also mentioned a recent Group of Ministers’ meeting chaired by the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister. This meeting provided strategic guidance for the final stages of preparation.
Jadhav thanked yoga gurus for their important role in developing the common yoga protocol. He urged all departments to ensure broad participation in the Yoga Sangam event, the statement added.
In his welcome address, Ayush Ministry Secretary Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha said that IDY has grown into one of the largest global movements. Last year, about 24 crore people participated across India.
Kotecha announced that this year, the ministry aims for even greater engagement. Over 1 lakh yoga events will be held simultaneously on June 21 as part of the flagship Yoga Sangam. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the national celebration from Visakhapatnam.
He emphasized that IDY should not be seen as a one-day event but as part of a global wellness movement.
Highlighting Modi’s recent speech at the 78th World Health Assembly in Geneva, Kotecha reiterated India’s call for worldwide participation in IDY 2025.
He also spoke about 10 signature events aligned with the theme for IDY 2025: “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.” This theme matches the World Health Organization’s “One World, One Health” message.
Kotecha called on yoga gurus, Ayush institutions, and government bodies to work together to make IDY 2025 a truly transformative experience.
