Google announced during its I/O 2025 developer livestream that its Health Connect app will expand its data-sharing capabilities. Starting in June, Android users will be able to sync their health information across multiple apps, including Garmin, Runna, and Mi Fitness.
Until now, syncing Garmin data with Android devices was not possible. For example, on iPhones, Apple Health connects directly with Garmin, but this option was missing on Android devices. This meant users with Garmin devices and Android phones could not easily consolidate their fitness data from different sources.
This update will solve that problem. It will finally let Android users sync their Garmin fitness data smoothly. The timing is especially convenient as Garmin has recently launched its new Forerunner 965 and Forerunner 970 watches.
Syncing is optional. Users can choose whether to connect their device’s health app to Garmin. Health Connect acts as a secure middleman. It stores all data locally on the user’s device and does not upload it to the cloud. Users control their data sharing settings. By default, all integrations are off. People must give explicit permission before any data is shared between apps. If someone prefers, they can keep their data separate easily.
The Garmin integration is expected to roll out in June, along with support for Runna and Mi Fitness. For years, Garmin’s closed ecosystem made it difficult for Android users to share their Garmin data with other apps. Users often had to use complicated workarounds. Now, syncing workouts and health data between Garmin and Android apps will be much easier.
Beyond basic fitness metrics, Google says the new integration will also allow users to read and write more detailed health information. This includes allergies and immunizations. While the update is planned for June, Google has not announced the exact launch date yet.
