Barcelona Creates Special Fitness Plan for Key Duo to Stay Injury-Free

by Lana Green

Barcelona are not only targeting new signings to strengthen the squad under new head coach Hansi Flick this summer—they are also focusing on improving the fitness of their current players.

Last year, the club created a customised fitness plan for Pedri, a key midfielder who had struggled with injuries. The plan worked well. Pedri stayed injury-free throughout the season and showed his top form when fit and playing regularly.

Focus Shifts to Araujo and Olmo

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, the coaching staff is applying the same strategy to Ronald Araujo and Dani Olmo. Both players suffered from recurring injuries last season. Barcelona aim to help them return to peak physical condition and stay healthy during the upcoming campaign.

Fitness coach Julio Tous is leading the effort. He is working closely with the medical team and the players. Together, they have conducted a full muscle analysis to study the players’ muscle fibre structure. This data is being used to design personal training programs that can reduce the risk of injury and improve physical performance.

Dani Olmo’s Struggles

Dani Olmo returned to Barcelona last summer. However, his season was disrupted by registration issues and multiple injuries. Although he showed flashes of brilliance, his physical problems prevented him from maintaining form.

He recently underwent a detailed physical assessment. It examined muscle condition and other key health indicators. Using the results, the staff created a tailored training plan. This includes workout sessions, rest schedules, and nutritional guidance, which he will follow throughout the summer.

Araujo’s Recovery Path

Ronald Araujo faced similar setbacks. He missed the entire first half of the season due to an injury that required surgery. Later, he missed additional matches because of recurring fitness problems.

Araujo will now follow a similar fitness regime as Olmo. The club hopes it will keep him fit and available for the full season.

Deco Confirms Club Strategy

Barcelona sporting director Deco confirmed the club’s approach during a recent interview in Brazil. He explained that the staff are working hard to prevent further injuries to key players.

“We have Marc Bernal who was injured at the beginning of the season, as well as Ronald Araujo and Dani Olmo, and we are working to ensure that they do not get injured again,” Deco said.
