Meadow Glens Park will soon get new fitness stations and playground equipment as part of the Naperville Park District’s capital improvement plan.
The park board of commissioners recently approved contracts to buy the new equipment for a total of $268,143. They said the current fitness and play equipment need to be replaced.
The park is located at 1303 Muirhead Ave., just south of 75th Street and west of Wehrli Road. The park’s website shows designs for the new playground and fitness stations. These new features will join existing softball fields, picnic shelters, and basketball courts.
New Fitness Stations Along Meadow Glens Trail
Kompan, Inc. will supply new equipment to replace all six fitness stations along the park trail. The contract is worth $120,000.
The current fitness stations were last replaced in 2012. The new stations will be installed this summer. They will have accessible surfaces so people of all abilities can use them.
The stations will include a leg press, chest press, arm pull-down, sit-up bench, suspension trainer, and magnetic kettlebells. Two recumbent bikes will also be available near the playground for visitors to use.
Playground Equipment Updates in Eight Parks
The playground equipment at Meadow Glens will be replaced by BCI Burke Company, LLC, for $148,143.
The park district typically replaces playground equipment every 15 years, said Eric Shutes, director of planning. However, replacement timing can vary depending on how worn the equipment is.
This year, Meadow Glens is one of eight parks scheduled for new playgrounds. Others include Columbia Commons, Kroehler Park, Polo Club Park, Rosehill Farms Park, West Greens, White Eagle Park, and Willow Gate Square.
Before replacing playgrounds, the park district invites contractors to bid for the delivery and installation of the equipment.
Community Input Shapes Equipment Choices
Residents in the neighborhood had a chance to give feedback through park district surveys. Their input helped choose the new fitness stations and playground equipment. Commissioners praised this process for including the public and listening to their opinions.
The park district expects most of the work at Meadow Glens to finish by fall. The park’s website lists the construction timeline as running from July through September.
