Students of the Rajiv Gandhi University of Knowledge Technologies (RGUKT) are set to train nearly 10 lakh people in yoga across Andhra Pradesh as part of the ongoing ‘Yogandhra’ programme. The initiative also marks the observance of International Yoga Day on June 21.
The university has launched a student-led yoga training campaign in all its campuses—R.K. Valley, Nuzvid, Srikakulam, and Ongole—as part of its community service efforts. To ensure smooth coordination, campus directors, administrative officers, deans of student welfare, chief wardens, NSS programme officers, yoga instructors, and physical directors have formed dedicated social media groups linking management and students.
“RGUKT has developed a yoga protocol and shared it with students who are currently on summer break,” said Registrar Amarendra Kumar Sandra. “Around 20,000 students will take part in the programme and are expected to train nearly 10 lakh people across the State.”
The university has included yoga instruction in its curriculum by appointing trained instructors on each campus. As a result, many RGUKT students have won prizes at both State and national-level yoga competitions, Mr. Sandra noted.
He added that students have been advised to coordinate with the headmasters of the schools they previously attended to organize the training sessions. Each student is expected to train 50 individuals.
Upon returning to their campuses, students must submit five photographs showing the training sessions, clearly marked with date and location. They must also provide a photo taken during the International Yoga Day celebration, along with an authentication letter from either a school headmaster or village sarpanch.
The university will issue a certificate of participation to each student, which will count toward the mandatory community service requirement of their academic programme, the registrar confirmed.
