Garmin has begun rolling out beta software version 22.03 to several of its high-end smartwatches, including the Fenix 7, Epix, Enduro 2, Quatix 7, and MARQ Gen 2 models. This update introduces two new workout metrics for high-intensity interval training (HIIT), along with multiple bug fixes and minor improvements.
The beta release comes shortly after the launch of stable version 21.19, which added features such as a Breathing Variations tool, an updated Running Track Database, and sensor-related enhancements.
With version 22.03, users now have access to “Reps” and “Set Time” data fields during HIIT sessions. Garmin has also improved the rest screen for swimming activities, although the company has not shared specific details on the changes. Additionally, the update removes the ‘edit’ option from Garmin Coach workouts where editing is not supported.
The new beta version addresses several bugs. These include issues with the activity map, power modes during workouts, and the HRV (Heart Rate Variability) glance. Garmin also fixed a problem where music volume failed to update correctly and resolved a crash that occurred when users tried to open the connection information page.
According to a recent post by a Garmin representative on the company’s official forum, the update has been pushed to about 20% of eligible devices. There is no timeline for when the rollout will be complete. The post also notes that ECG functionality is included in this release, hinting that a stable version of the update may soon be available to all users.
Garmin smartwatch owners—particularly those using the Fenix 7, which starts at $599.99 on Amazon—can expect broader access to these features in the near future.
