Sydney, May 26, 2025 – Australian fitness equipment brand Lifespan Fitness has revealed the latest workout trends capturing the attention of Australians in 2025. By analysing search interest growth on social media between May 2023 and May 2025, the company uncovered a clear shift in how Australians are approaching fitness.
The data shows a move away from traditional routines like Pilates and weight training toward endurance-based activities. Hyrox training emerged as the most popular trend, with search interest soaring by over 1,066% in just two years.
Fitness Becomes Social
Hyrox, along with community-based activities like Parkruns, has grown beyond personal fitness. These workouts are becoming social events, encouraging people to connect while improving their health. Across the country, Australians are embracing fitness as a shared experience.
Other fast-rising trends include stairmaster workouts, marathon training, cold plunges, and bouldering. While interest in wall Pilates has dropped by 63%, reformer Pilates has grown by 50%, showing shifting preferences even within established exercise types.
Fitness for All Levels
Peter Day, a Hyrox World Competitor and Lifespan Fitness ambassador, said the data highlights how fitness trends evolve over time.
“Some workouts lose appeal, while others open new doors for people of all fitness levels. It’s about finding what fits your goals and lifestyle,” Day said.
“Hyrox stands out because it’s accessible. Unlike many fitness events limited to elite athletes, Hyrox welcomes everyone. Combined with the rise of Parkruns and marathon training, it shows that group fitness is becoming a key part of how Australians stay active.”
Australia’s Top Fitness Trends in 2025
1. Hyrox Training
Hyrox leads the list with over 1,066% growth in search interest. With close to 300,000 monthly searches, it blends functional exercises with 8 kilometers of running. Hyrox includes four race categories—Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay—making it both challenging and inclusive.
2. Stairmaster Workouts
Interest in stairmaster workouts has climbed by more than 160%. This cardio workout mimics stair climbing and builds lower-body strength while boosting heart health. Popular routines like the “25-7-2 Workout”—25 minutes at level 7, twice a week—are driving online engagement.
3. 75 Hard Challenge
The 75 Hard Challenge ranks third, with a 140% rise in searches. First introduced in 2019, this intense 75-day program combines two daily workouts, strict dieting with no cheat meals or alcohol, and mental discipline. It averages 17,000 monthly searches.
4. Marathon Training and Parkruns
Running is on the rise nationwide, with marathon training seeing a 54% increase in interest and over 32,000 monthly searches. Parkruns and run clubs are also growing, becoming popular not only for exercise but also for community connection.
5. Cold Plunges
Cold water immersion, or cold plunges, have gained traction with a 40% rise in interest. These post-workout recovery methods help reduce muscle soreness and now reach more than 22,000 monthly searches.
New Fitness Trends to Watch
Lifespan Fitness also identified several emerging fitness activities that saw zero or minimal interest in 2023 but have since gained momentum. These include open water swimming, hybrid training, triathlon participation, and rowing—all showing over 100% growth in interest. This further confirms Australia’s growing preference for endurance-based training.
How the Study Was Conducted
Lifespan Fitness began by compiling a list of trending fitness topics from social media, such as “75 Hard Challenge,” “cosy cardio,” and “Hyrox.” Using Google Trends data via the Glimpse tool, they measured the percentage change in search interest between May 2023 and May 2025.
Trends were ranked from highest to lowest based on their percentage growth. Only fitness regimes with over 1,000 monthly searches were considered to ensure relevance. The data was collected between May 13 and May 22, 2025.
