Zumba is moving beyond fitness studios to bring its dance workouts into people’s living rooms. The goal is to get the whole family active and having fun together.
Zumba has partnered with Nex, a startup known for its motion-sensing, controller-free gaming system. Together, they will launch a new interactive Zumba experience called Nex Playground. This title, set to release in August, combines Zumba’s energetic dance moves with Nex’s AI-powered motion tracking and game-like scoring.
This collaboration marks an important step for both companies. Zumba is entering the home fitness market, while Nex is expanding from children’s games to fitness activities for all ages.
David Lee, Nex’s co-founder and CEO, said, “Our partnership with Zumba aims to bring their world-class dance fitness into living rooms everywhere. This is more than exercise. It’s about creating joyful moments that get families moving together. At Nex, we design experiences for everyone because healthy screen time is for all ages, not just kids.”
The Zumba game uses a progression system. Players unlock new songs, dance styles, and moves as they improve. The system tracks performance in real time, providing scores and feedback to keep users motivated.
Nex Playground is designed with families in mind. It holds a kidSAFE+ certification, meaning it has strong safety features. The system does not include ads, internet access, or in-game purchases. Data is stored locally on the device, which also has a built-in camera cover for privacy.
Carolina Moraes, Zumba’s chief marketing officer, said, “This partnership lets us bring Zumba outside the studio. We want exercise to feel fun and social, not like a chore. By combining our easy choreography and catchy rhythms with Nex’s motion technology, we’re changing how people of all ages enjoy fitness at home.”
Nex Playground consoles are available at major retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Target, and Walmart.
