Lizzo is confidently stepping into her bikini era.
On Saturday, June 7, the 37-year-old singer of “Truth Hurts” posted a video on Instagram. In the clip, she danced by a backyard pool wearing a pink and gray string bikini and a black face covering. The music playing was one of her own rap tracks. She captioned the post with a lyric from the song: “BLACK TRUCK A– POKING OUT THA WINDOW.”
Lizzo often shares playful summer moments with her fans. Just a few weeks earlier, on May 24, she posted another video showing her dancing and lip-syncing in a yellow and blue bikini paired with high heels to celebrate Memorial Day.
Since 2023, Lizzo has openly discussed her weight loss journey on social media and in interviews. She has made it clear that her main goal is to improve her mental health, not just change her appearance.
In a TikTok video from May 2023, Lizzo said, “Exercise has helped me shift my mind, not my body.” In an interview with The New York Times in March 2024, she described her approach as “methodical” and said she was “losing weight very slowly.”
She also explained how her view on body image had shifted from body positivity to body neutrality. “I’m not going to lie and say I love my body every day,” she said. “The way you feel about your body changes every single day. Some days I adore my body, and other days I don’t feel completely positive.”
In January 2025, Lizzo posted two mirror selfies on Instagram. They included screenshots from an app showing she had reached her weight goal. “I did it,” she wrote. “Today when I stepped on my scale, I reached my weight release goal. I haven’t seen this number since 2014! Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to. Time for new goals!”
The images showed Lizzo had lowered her body mass index by 10.5 points and lost 16% of her body fat. She has been clear about the language she uses to describe her journey. On the April 7 episode of the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, Lizzo said she prefers the term “weight release” instead of “weight loss.”
“My man, he’s so funny,” she said, talking about her boyfriend, Myke Wright. “He was the one who pointed it out at first. I said, ‘Oh my gosh, I lost five pounds,’ and he asked, ‘Where did it go?’”
She added, “I don’t think I want to lose anything. I think I want to win. I think I want to gain.”
